Design Philosophy

"Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself."

This quote by Harvey Fierstein, American actor and playwright, is one of my main sources of inspiration. My main drive is to design and create underground fashion to provide a fresh perspective on alternative style. I incorporate specific conceptual aspects to communicate mood that has meaning and symbolism behind it. As an example, my personal aesthetic is always accompanied by themes of punk and anarchy that represent rebellious movement through untamed silhouettes and edgy embellishment.

With many of my sewing and technical flat projects I have challenged myself to create exciting and fresh silhouettes with eye-catching details. I would take to some of my sources of inspiration such as Rock 'n' Roll music and street photography based off of reoccurring motifs, such as chains, studs or sharp points, distress, and revolution. Through this technique I was able to create radical designs that pushed the boundaries. The aesthetic present in my designs paired with the extraordinary yearning to expand such a small niche in the marketplace is what leads to my personal success. My work is an expression of my attitude and my perspective of life - the one I have defined for myself. I aim to share this definition with others so that they may gain inspiration to create their own definition of life.

DESIGNER: JESSICA PALMER

My main drive as a fashion designer is to make a difference in the industry by expanding the smaller niche of underground apparel. This theme derives from my personal attitude as well as various inspirations such as Rock 'n' Roll music and urban culture. To me, an individual is defined by the clothing they wear. For my underground consumers, I want to be able to help define them without using words. With the lack of successful alternative fashion in the industry, my aspiration is to become the designer who reintroduces it with a fresh perspective.
